TELEVISION

Most of these spots were shot run-and-gun style, using a Canon 5D, very simple lighting set ups and a crew of one or two – including me. We traveled with a stack of release forms, as we never knew what might happen on the scene. A dolly here, a small jib there. Edited in Final Cut on a standard desktop. No frills, affordable television commercials.

PIA - A long but fun day clambering over, under, and through planes. At one point my talented crew MacGuyvered curved dolly track from some scavenged airplane hose. Problem solving at it's best.

 PIA - "A FUTURE"

Truth - Shot this in two locations, the second being the Trib Total Media Newsroom in the middle of a busy news day with track, dolly and mini-jib. I'm sure we were a bit of a distraction, but they still made it to press.

 TRIB TOTAL MEDIA - "TRUTH"

Relentless - Another day in the Trib's busy newsroom, as well as their printing and distribution facilities. Canon 5D, Canon 7D, GoPro.

Heritage - Armed with a stack of releases we spent a few days driving around Washington County and areas south, shooting documentary style. The biker happened upon us while scouting the covered bridges, and was happy to oblige us with about seven takes while I shot from the trunk of a Civic.

WASHINGTON FINANCIAL "HERITAGE"

Docks for Life - A Canon 5D and a tripod - that about covers the equipment list for this shoot, unless you count the kayak, runabout and fishing tackle. A beautiful two days traversing Route 30 from Indian Lake to Bedford County - and an unexpected dip in Indian Lake for kids, cast, and crew as our rented boat caught fire. All survived, save for our model's sandal which has found it's place in Davey Jone's Locker.

OHNEY "DOCKS FOR LIFE"

Dave & Diane - A little ditty, 'bout Dave & Diane. Two American kids hooking up in the heartland. Like most of these spots, this was another low profile shoot. Canon 5, and 7D - shot in the Pittsburgh Zoo's aquarium and St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in the Strip District with only the sun, and a couple of LEDs for light.

CATHOLIC MATCH - "DAVE & DIANE"

Zig - One of a series of about six spots for Trib Total Media's ConTRIButes campaign, illustrating how the company gives back, even at the individual level. Canon 5D, 7D.

TRIB TOTAL MEDIA "CONTRIBUTES - ZIG"

Luis - Another of the ConTRIButes campaign featuring investigative reporter Luis Fabergas. Canon 5D, and 7D.

In the Cards - College - Shot on an old door and two saw horses in a makeshift studio in an abandoned apartment above the agency with a couple of Flow soft lights and a Canon 7D. Baptism by glue gun. A day or two to build the card models, and a day or two to shoot.

WASHINGTON FINANCIAL - "IN THE CARDS - COLLEGE"

In the Cards - Home - Shot three spots like this in a day or two, all in an abandoned apartment with no heat above the agency. As with most of these shoots, I had a very low production budget to work with and made due. Canon 7d.

WASHINGTON FINANCIAL - "IN THE CARDS - HOME"

Hockey History - What do you do when you need to create a spot highlighting a clients history and relationship with the Pittsburgh Penguins, but due to the NHL Players Association you cannot mention any player names or use any of their images? This.

TRIB TOTAL MEDIA - "HOCKEY HISTORY"

Nursing - Jefferson Regional Hospital needed an inspirational spot about the vocation of nursing for their website to help with their recruiting efforts. A few days roaming the hallways with these caregivers inspired me.

JEFFERSON REGIONAL HOSPITAL - "NOW HIRING FRIENDS"

Out scouting a holiday spot for the client, we happened upon a tree farm in Washington County, and shot this spot...on the spot. Beautiful skies and interesting people. The magic of shooting with a DSLR documentary style. It never aired, but I love the vibe of it.

WASHINGTON FINANCIAL - "CHRISTMAS TREE"

A couple of days in beautiful Lewistown, helping them compete with the big dogs in Happy Valley.

LEWISTOWN HOSPITAL - "QUALITY INSPIRED"
